EIM and HPCL establish heavy vehicle charging infrastructure partnership

On July 27, Energy in Motion announced an agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to establish and operate fast charging cum battery swapping infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles at selected HPCL retail outlets across India. The initiative aims to support freight mobility by developing accessible energy solutions along major transport routes. HPCL operates a network of more than 25,000 retail outlets nationwide, including locations across major highways and expressways.

Battery swapping model and operational responsibilities

Under the agreement, Energy in Motion will own and manage the battery inventory along with swap-and-charge hardware deployed at selected locations. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited will provide outlet space, utilities and common amenities required for station operations. This collaboration creates a shared infrastructure model where energy management, charging technology and retail network accessibility are combined to improve operational efficiency for heavy commercial vehicle operators.

Expansion plans across freight corridors

Energy in Motion plans to establish swap-and-charge hubs on key freight corridors over the next 18 to 24 months and expand the network progressively thereafter. The stations will be integrated with EIM’s technology platform to enable real-time availability tracking, digital payments and remote monitoring capabilities. The infrastructure is expected to support fleet operators by reducing charging downtime and improving the usability of battery-powered heavy commercial vehicles on long-distance routes.
