Previous Industry Recall Prompted Additional Review

Earlier this year, Hyundai issued a recall and stop-sale order after a two-year-old child was fatally injured by the power-folding rear seats of a Palisade. Certain versions of the Kia Telluride were also recalled for a similar issue. During GM's assessment, engineers found that the seatback continued its power-folding operation even with a 33- to 40-pound box positioned on the seat, eventually stopping in a position that prevented the object from being removed without manually reversing the seatback.

Cadillac Vistiq Recall Interim and Permanent Actions

The Folding 3rd Row Seat Module Assembly used in the affected vehicles was manufactured by Yanfeng Seating in Mexico. GM has not yet finalized the permanent repair procedure. Until a complete remedy is available, dealers will disable the power-folding mechanism on vehicles still in inventory and will also deactivate the feature for owners who request it. The permanent solution will replace the existing folding seat module with an updated version designed to automatically return the seat to its upright position whenever sufficient resistance is detected during the folding process.
